Favorite Christmas
tradition?
I kind of have two favorite Christmas traditions - neither of which I do anymore. The first was waiting until Christmas Eve to decorate the tree. My family did this every year when I was a kid, and it was a really big deal. At the end of the night, we’d each get a brand new ornament to hang and Christmas pajamas to have for the big morning. Now that we all live in separate states, that tradition doesn’t happen. But mostly because I decorate the tree (with all of my childhood ornaments, most of which are mermaids or fish) a couple of weeks before Christmas so that I can enjoy it longer!
And the
second tradition that I loved as a kid but don’t get to do anymore is caroling
in the old school house. Every year, usually on Christmas Eve, one of the small
towns near us would open up the school-turned-town hall, pass out white candles
and a cheat sheet, and we’d all sing carols in the candle light. I imagined
there were at least 100 people participating each year and it always signified
the start of the season for me. I’m not even sure if they still do that, but
the tradition certainly became a part of our family’s ritual for many years.
Note from me: Who loved Amber's traditions as much as I did?! <3 I can relate to getting a new ornament every year and brand new PJ's for the big day. And, oh, how do I wish I had a memory like caroling in the old school house!!! P.S. Um, I'm kinda really in love with the seahorse ornament hanging on that gorgeous Christmas tree! <3
